Eldar Shengelaia 1933 – 2025

I’m deeply saddened to hear about the passing of Mr. Eldar Shengelaia, a great director whose films have inspired many generations.

This is a tremendous loss for both Georgian and world cinema.

Mr. Eldar was the first international jury member of our festival.

He was an extraordinary and noble person who supported all things progressive and innovative with great interest and care.

May the Lord illuminate his immortal soul.

Public memorial service at Sioni Cathedral on August 7th at 12:00 PM; funeral at 2:00 PM.
